ITEMS FOR CARE PACKAGES
I get a lot
of emails from people asking for ideas of what to put in their care
packages. Here are some that we suggest, or that have been requested:
Food & drink items
- Powdered drink
mixes, the individual ones you can pour in a water bottle
- Wet wipes are
in high demand
- Beef jerky
- trail mix
- Candy: licorice,
M&Ms
- Any substantial snacks to get them through long days.
- Any just-add hot
water snacks: instant mashed pototoes, instant soups, ramen noodles
Clothing:
- Black, green,
or khaki t-shirts
- Long socks—after
walking a few
days in that heat and dust, there's often no salvaging a pair; they just take them off and toss them.
- Mechanics gloves,
in black or khaki
Electronics
AA batteries are hot-ticket items, for both their electronic fun gadgets, and their rifle scopes.
Miscellaneous
Magazines
sunglasses
deck of cards
Toiletries
Eye drops
foot creams
lotion
deodorant
sunscreen
toothbrushes
toothpaste
"Giftier" ideas
Hand-held digital games
small, electonic hot-pot to heat water
CDs
DVDs
Leatherman tools
Pillows (can be rolled tight to fit in boxes)
Pillowcases
sheets
I often just walk around the store and throw anything into the cart that looks like
someone could use it!
